The Ultimate Ranking of Our 2025 Reads

The Ultimate Ranking of Our 2025 Reads

We wanted to do things a little differently in 2025. While still tracking our reading, we wanted to find a way to look back at every book the Fable Girls read this year. And with a little bit of spreadsheet magic (and a lot of Liz wanting to throw that spreadsheet across the room) we've created a definitive ranking of every book we read in 2025.

Check back regularly to see this list updated as we read our way through 2025!

So without further ado, here is our ranking for 2025:

Hunting by Stars by Cherie Dimaline

Read by: Liz and Hayden

This is the sequel to The Marrow Thieves this book more than exceeded our expectations by managing to be even better than the first book in the duology. Here are a few things we loved about this book: Indigenous-Canadian representation, found family, and a message of standing up against injustice.

The Marrow Thieves

Read by: Emily, Liz, and Hayden

It's not surprise that with Hunting by Stars just above it in this list, its first instalment would make this list as well. We don't need to reiterate what we loved about this book because it's exactly the same!

Read by: Emily

Memoirs can often be hit or miss but this one, from the TRUE STAR of Gilmore Girls (a hill we will die on), Kelly Bishop was a hit. It gives the right mix of nostalgia and insight to give any fan of the show a great reading experience.

Read by: Hayden

This is not a surprising ranking for a book that is known to be a crowd favourite. And as Hayden goes through her self proclaimed "sad girl era" this was an obvious pick. We're sure that you'll see even more Adam Silvera reads on this list.

Read by: Hayden

The second instalment in the Charlotte Holmes series, The Last of August, comes in early as a top contender of 2025 for Hayden. This is a series that Emily & Liz have seen on countless selves in their book research but have never taken the plunge to read - is this worth picking up to see if it stacks up to Hayden's high praise?

Read by: Hayden

There will be even less surprise that Hayden loved this ready just as much as the original installment. Adam Silvera is quickly becoming an instant buy author for her.

Read by: Liz

Liz might be a bit biased on this one since one of her favourite people wrote this book but it was nothing short of amazing. It explores a lot of tough topics through a string of perfectly place words to create a song-like read.

Read by: Emily

And to follow a slightly biased review from Liz, Emily's friend self-published this fantasy novel earlier this year. This is another beautiful read with intricate storytelling and engaging characters.

Read by: Hayden

Who doesn't love pirates!? This one is the third book in the Daughter of the Pirate King series but it is the first one in our ranking as so far it has been Hayden's favourite. Don't you love when a series just gets better with each book?

Read by: Hayden

Another book in Hayden's "sad girl" era - one that any millenials/Gen Z reader will remember. John Green is a well established champion of heartbreaking reads that will rock you to your core.

Read by: Hayden

This book is a fun read for anyone who loves moral ambiguity and a story that questions what makes up a monster. With high stakes moments and a strong female main character, we're not surprised that Hayden loved this read.
