7 Must-Try Authors for Frieda McFadden Fans

7 Must-Try Authors for Frieda McFadden Fans

It's hard to go into a bookstore nowadays without immediately zeroing in on a book by TikTok darling, Frieda McFadden. But what do you do if you've already read all of her books? Well, we've got you covered with some authors that you should check out with exceptional thriller back catalogues to explore!

Jessica Knoll

You might recognize Jessica Knoll from her 2023 release, Bright Young Women, which was inspired by some of the early crimes of Ted Bundy. It's also currently being developed as a TV series! But Jessica Knoll is no stranger to creating movie-worthy novels. Her 2015 release, Luckiest Girl Alive was turned into a movie starring Mila Kunis in 2022.

Bright Young Women is a favourite for Liz & Emily and is worthy of your TBR if you are a Frieda McFadden reader looking to branch out into other thriller novelists.

Samantha Downing

Samantha Downing has been on our minds since 2020 when we read He Started It. This slow-burn thriller with the twist of all twists completely blindsided us, and has become the benchmark for our standards.

Her debut novel, My Lovely Wife, has been rated over 150,000 times on Goodreads and with releases of three more thrillers since 2021 (one of those coming this year), Downing is quickly developing a catalogue of fun and creative thrillers that will surprise you with their twists and turns.

Ruth Ware

Ruth Ware should be no surprise to folks reading this list. Ware has been a TikTok, Bookstagram, and all around bookish favourite for years. With nine thrillers (and five YA Fantasy books), Ware is pumping out thrillers yearly that are instant bestsellers. We're big fans over here!

You might want to read The Woman in Cabin 10 before it hits your screens as a film adaptation later this year!

Mary Kubica

Another author with a significant back catalogue to read through is Mary Kubica. Her highest rated thriller on Goodreads, Local Woman Missing, was a 2023 favourite for Liz.

Kubica has had a few books optioned for movies but we think that Local Woman Missing has potential to be a hit as a movie, and hope to see that happen in the future.

Riley Sager

Another TikTok and Bookstagram darling, Riley Sager has eight books in his catalogue with a ninth coming this June.

Sager can be a bit hit and miss for readers but is often included next to McFadden for their shared theme of psychological-based thrillers. In 2024, Liz enjoyed Survive the Night, his 2021 release, and has since added The House Across the Lake and The Only One Left to her bookshelves for future reading.

Jillian Cantor

In Liz's opinion, Jillian Cantor is an under-appreciated gem in the world of thrillers. A 2024 discovery, The Fiction Writer, was enjoyed on a beachy vacation and easily finished in a single day.

Her most recent release, The Greatest Lie of All, is a Hollywood-themed mystery that explores love, glamour, and ambition. It's also her twelfth release giving readers lots of options to fill their TBR with some unique and fun stories.

Alex Finlay

Last, but certainly not least in the world of thrillers is Alex Finlay. In 2024, If Something Happens to Me, left Liz speechless. Literally, she arrived at Emily's house after listening to it in the car and could not make words happen.

Since then, The Night Shift has been knocked off of her TBR and there are three more hanging out in the wings waiting for their cue. Every Last Fear, one of those books on Liz's TBR, is currently in development as a TV series with Netflix.
